La Ceiba’s House of Culture Receives First Donation of USA Musical Instruments

(La Ceiba, Honduras) At a meeting of music educators on September 21, 2000, Fundación Casa de La Cultura formally received 26 musical instruments donated through Fundación La Música of Eugene, Oregon, USA. These instruments become the first in the organization’s “Banco de Instrumentos,” and will be available on loan to deserving public schools, teachers, and students throughout Departmento Atlantida.

The organizations also jointly agreed to support a school-year–2001 pilot program whereby Escuela Guadalupe de Quezada will become the first public grade school in La Ceiba to offer instrumental music classes and field a marching band. Fundación La Música will donate nearly one hundred instruments and books of sheet music to equip the music classroom and student band.
